In a year of pretty shitty singles, I am amazed that this cow has the single of the year (in the eyes of Rolling Stone).
Alright, I am a singer, so I can appreciate the fact that she has an amazing voice. Truly. It has a power to it that not many singers can bear nowadays at that. The thing is, this leaves me to wonder why she is so special. Did anyone else also think that the hook / chorus to her song "Rolling in the Deep" sounded a lot like that Gnarls Barkley song, Crazy? Dubious.
Like most curious internet-goers, I decided to look on yahoo answers for clarity. The first response I read went as follows:
"She actually has talent and does not need her looks to be popular like most pop stars. I don't listen to her music but she is incredibly sweet and can actually sing." - Fancy Squirrel
Some pop/rock stars who are incredibly sweet and talented:
“The biggest misconception about me is that I am not a real person” - Lady Gaga
Love her or hate her, she can sing. She corners the market on weird, but cares about her (equally weird / insane) fans like she would her family.
“I Lived on the street when i was a kid, i wasn’t even at school, so i had a whole different set of experiences for those formative years. I was gone… i was in a very precarious place when i was younger.” - Jared Leto, 30 Seconds to Mars Front Man
“I’ve heard that i’m a whore, i’m gay, i smoke crazk, that i’m a total prick…” - Jared Leto
I've had the pleasure of meeting JL, aka GQ's worst dressed man of 2011, in the flesh. Couldn't have asked for a nicer rock star. Fame changes people, but Leto runs with it and makes it special for everyone involved - fans included.
Which also leads me to wonder why Rolling Stone never talks about them... they set a Guinness world record for longest concert tour on an album cycle this year (This is War ), won an award for the best MTV Live Performance of 2011 (their MTV Unplugged acoustic set - quite good at that) beating out heavy hitters such as Paramore and Rhianna... and so much more. They would probably need to buy a new house just to house their sizable trophy collection.
But hey, weird (because let's be honest, 30 Seconds to Mars is a cult) only sells if you are Lady Gaga (her "Edge of Glory" was #7 Single of the year) or Katy Perry. And yeah, I'd have to agree with Jay-Z and Kanye (#2 with their song "Ni**as in Paris") when they say, "That shit cray."
Adele's album, 21, was also Rolling Stone's album of the year.
Lady Gaga's, Born This Way, was ranked #6. I thought it was pretty shitty, and I like her music though so again, I'm gonna have to say dubious.
Drake's take care was ranked 22nd. Pretty brutal for a decent album. It is definitely worth a listen.
Watch The Throne (Jay-Z and Kanye) was first loser, #2, behind Adele. Shit guys, you deserved it. Let's be serious. That album was amazing.
